Kukicha is unique in that it is naturally very low in caffeine without any industrial decaffeination. Therefore, Kukicha is the best green tea for children and people who cannot have drinks high in caffeine.

Kukicha is derived from the secondary processing of gyokuro and sencha leaf & stems.
When coming from gyokuro’s production, it takes the name of Karigane (Kukicha Gold – MyCha )
It has a light flavour, fresh green aroma and the sweetness of premium tea.

Kukicha (stem tea) is a Japanese green tea blend made of stems , stalks, and leaf trailings. Kukicha has a unique flavour and aroma and is rich in Amino Acids which is found most abundantly in the green tea leaf stem.
Compared to leaves, the stems are twice as rich in L-theanine, which causes palatability and sweetness. However, stems do not produce the higher levels of caffeine associated with green tea leaf.
As a result, kukicha is low in caffeine, yet has a unique taste and aroma. In Japan it is very popular as an occasional alternative to Sencha, especially when drinking green tea throughout the day.

Kukicha has a mildly nutty and slightly creamy sweet flavour. It is made of four sorts of stems, stalks and twigs of Camellia sinensis. For best results, kukicha is steeped in water between 70 °C (158 °F) to 80 °C (176 °F), usually for less than one minute (oversteeping or steeping too hot, as with all green teas, will result in a bitter, unsavoury brew).

It is common to steep kukicha for three or four infusions.
